Artificial Intelligence - Steps Toward the "One-World System"

Artificial Intelligence – Steps Toward the “One-World System”

Recently, Pope Leo, the Head of the Roman Catholic Church, formally drew attention through his first Church Encyclical to some of the perils associated with the current emphasis on hurriedly advancing “Artificial Intelligence (AI)”. Those dangers include wreaking havoc on the employment opportunities for masses of people;  further concentrating the world’s wealth in the hands of the few; and more. These potential “negatives” are not being viewed seriously by large numbers of people, especially those who feel they will benefit from the “positives”.  See: https://www.vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/en/encyclicals/documents/20260515-magnifica-humanitas.html ; and   https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2026/05/25/pope-elevates-ai-ethics-religious-imperative-with-first-encyclical/

In those contextual frameworks, and even as Pope Leo cited several Bible references to support his Encyclical, Christians should look further into what Scriptural prophecy tells us about the future “One-World System” and its relationship to some of what we know about AI.

As we begin this discussion I think it is important to first define the terms used in the title.

Artificial intelligence (AI or A.I.) "is a computer program or a machine that is able to learn and mimic human cognition / reasoning.  Artificial intelligence is also a system's ability to understand external data, to learn from that data, and to use what it has learned to achieve specific goals or tasks through adaptation.  It is widely applied in speech recognition, image recognition, robotics, autonomous systems, natural language processing, machine translation, predictive analytics, medical diagnostics, fraud detection, and the control of physical processes, among other uses." (Emphasis added)  (Abstracted from: https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artificial_intelligence ; and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artificial_intelligence )

In defining these terms from the title, I think it is also important to distinguish between the concepts of “One-World System / Order” and the “New World Order” . The “One-World System / Order” is the name that was created to identify the terrible conditions described in the Bible under which all mankind will be living under a single government under the control of the Antichrist (false Christ), during the period of “Tribulation”, before the Second Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Total obedience will be required by all persons, under penalty of death for disobedience.

By definition, this was all prophesied to happen at some time in the future, but knowledgeable Christians and others recognize that the groundwork has been already begun. Included in the conditions under which all mankind will live,  there will be:

·       a One-World Religion, headed by the “False Prophet” (false Holy Spirit), requiring all worship be to the Antichrist; and

·       a One-World Economy and Currency, requiring all persons to receive a distinctive mark (“mark of the beast” / Antichrist) on their hand or forehead that would be required to purchase or sell any goods or services.

[Note Daniel 7: 1-25, 9: 20-27;  Revelation Chapters 13 and 14 (which were written using much “symbolism”); and hopefully the more easily understood words of our Lord Jesus in Matthew 24: 1-28; and the Apostle Paul’s words received from the Ascended Lord in 2 Thessalonians 2: 1-12. ( See also: https://www.gotquestions.org/one-world-government.html .)]

On the other hand, the “New World Order” is the name that was created by journalists / historians, and others “describing from a political perspective various periods in history in which major change took place in terms of international relations;…and for some theorists, believing in plans for a totalitarian world government”  …"The phrase 'new world order' or similar language was used in the period toward the end of the First World War in relation to the United States President Woodrow Wilson's vision for international peace”.  (See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_World_Order ; and  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_world_order_(politics) .)

Although the “New World Order” was not directly related to Bible prophecy when it first appeared, in retrospect we can see the connection.  First, it is not merely a “coincidence” that the Nation of Israel became an Independent State in May 1948, thereby fulfilling the prophecy of Ezekiel 37: 1-21.  Further, it is likely not a mere “coincidence” that this period in the 1900’s, continuing into the current 21st Century saw man’s creation of other concepts / developments that would accelerate progression towards a “One-World System”. Consider the rapid expansion in the technologies involving computers, telecommunications, international travel, space exploration, academic and medical research, military and law enforcement technologies, and more.  Consider the following examples:

·       National Identification Number:   "A national identification number or national identity number is used by the governments of many countries as a means of uniquely identifying their citizens or residents for the purposes of work, taxation, government benefits, health care, banking and other governmentally-related functions. They allow authorities to use a unique identifier which can be linked to a database, reducing the risk of misidentification of a person. They are often stated on national identity documents of citizens." (See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_identification_number )

·       Social Security Number (SSN)   "In the United States, a Social Security number (SSN) is a nine-digit number issued to U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and temporary (working) residents under section 205(c)(2) of the Social Security Act, codified as 42 U.S.C. § 405(c)(2). The number is issued to an individual by the Social Security Administration, an independent agency of the United States government. Although the original purpose for the number was for the Social Security Administration to track individuals,[1] the Social Security number has become a de facto national identification number for taxation and other purposes.

Social Security numbers were first issued by the Social Security Administration in November 1936 as part of the New Deal Social Security program. Within three months, 25 million numbers were issued.[5]  The original purpose of the Social Security number was to track individuals' accounts within the Social Security program. It has since come to be used as an identifier for individuals within the United States, …Employee, patient, student, and credit records are sometimes indexed by Social Security number."  See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_Security_number ; and

·       Universal Product Code (UPC)   "The Universal Product Code (UPC or UPC code) is a barcode symbology that is used worldwide for tracking trade items in stores.  The chosen symbology has bars (or spaces) of exactly 1, 2, 3, or 4 units wide each; each decimal digit to be encoded consists of two bars and two spaces chosen to have a total width of 7 units, in both an "even" and an "odd" parity form, which enables being scanned in either direction. Special "guard patterns" (3 or 5 units wide, not encoding a digit) are intermixed to help decoding.

A UPC (technically, a UPC-A) consists of 12 digits that are uniquely assigned to each trade item. The international GS1 organisation assigns the digits used for both the UPC and the related International Article Number (EAN) barcode.[1] UPC data structures are a component of Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs) and follow the global GS1 specification, which is based on international standards.

Another frequently asked question is the difference between a GTIN and a UPC. A GTIN and a UPC go together when licensing a barcode from GS1 US. A GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) is the identifying number encoded on the bottom of the barcode and the UPC code is the scannable element of the barcode.   Together a GTIN and a UPC are the two elements that make up the barcode. A barcode, a GTIN, and UPC are commonly used to describe essentially the same item; It is the standard and complete barcode you see in stores." (See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Product_Code ; and  https://www.gs1us.org/upcs-barcodes-prefixes/guide-to-upcs )

With these examples, and continuing observation and awareness of how the concepts of Artificial Intelligence are increasingly being implemented in the society, Christians should be mindful of how even more Bible prophecy is coming to reality. As Ambassadors for Christ, we should seriously consider the points raised by Pope Leo, as noted above.
